Sustainable, resource-saving, climate-neutral, environmentally friendly – the goals of our time. ChromoTek has decided to do its best to become greener. From this year, ChromoTek is shipping its products in more eco-friendly packaging material. Instead of shipping in plastic boxes, ChromoTek now ships its reagents in cardboard boxes.
The cardboard boxes are made of recycled paper and 30% grass. This is low-protein grass, which is unsuitable for animal feed. It comes from compensation areas or fallow land and is FSC certified. After use, the cardboard boxes should be disposed of in the wastepaper and thus flow back into the cycle of recycling. Alternatively, the boxes are compostable.
To reduce Styrofoam waste, ChromoTek focuses on insulating materials made from straw and hemp. These natural products have similar cooling and insulating qualities to Styrofoam. However, they are carbon-neutral, compostable, and sustainable. The natural materials come from regional or European farming. While straw is a by-product of farming, hemp sustainably improves soil quality. Hemp also absorbs significantly more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than is released during its cultivation, harvest and up to processing. Green energy is used in the further processing of the straw and hemp. This means that the entire manufacturing process for the insulating elements is climate-neutral. Once the straw panels and hemp fleece have done their job, they can be composted or used in the garden bed, for example.
In some countries, the importing of plant components is restricted or banned by law. For these countries, ChromoTek must therefore continue to use traditional packaging materials.
